AWC Staff Services are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join a high-performing team supporting the delivery of major infrastructure projects within the power and energy sector. You will be based in Prenton, Birkenhead. (Hybrid 2-3 days per week in the office)

This role is ideal for someone looking to develop their career in project management, gaining hands-on experience across large-scale programmes, structured delivery frameworks, and NEC contracts within a regulated utilities environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of project workstreams.
  • Assist with NEC contract administration, including early warnings, compensation events, and associated documentation.
  • Support cost control, forecasting, and risk management activities.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and key stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery.
  • Assist with project governance, reporting, and programme controls.
  • Produce regular progress reports, presentations, and project documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with project standards, processes, and health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Help identify and resolve project issues to support successful delivery.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Essential

  • Experience within the energy, utilities, infrastructure, or engineering sectors.
  • An understanding of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, or a willingness to develop knowledge in this area.
  • Strong organisational and coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Commercial awareness and exposure to project financials, cost reporting, or forecasting.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project reporting tools.

Desirable

  • A degree in Project Management, Engineering, Construction, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
  • Professional accreditation such as APM, PMI, or RICS (or working towards accreditation).
